Orpheus lives in the memory of a lost love from whom he can't get free. His void eyes make him incapable of feeling love again. The encounter with a painter will give him the courage to embark on a journey in his personal hell and obliterate Eurydice’s shadow.

“To Her” is a love story loosely based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice written by Virgil.

As the Orpheus from the epic poem, the male protagonist lives in the memory of a love now lost. His Eurydice is a shadow of the past from whom he can’t get free.

In Virgil’s myth, Orpheus suffers twice because of Eurydice’s death since he disobeys the order that Hades, God of the Deaths, gave to him: "don't ever turn around and don’t look Eurydice in the eyes before both of you step out the tunnel and into the light.”

My experimental short movie narrates Orpheus and Eurydice’s story in an opposite way from Virgil’s version. What if Orpheus is blind? How could he look at Eurydice then? What if Orpheus turned around early purposely because he wanted to make Eurydice disappear?

Orpheus doesn’t want to bring Eurydice back to life: he only wishes for her to disappear from his thoughts. She has become a memory that haunts him and makes him incapable of fully loving again. It’s not by chance that the Orpheus in the short movie is blind because his sight is bound to love.

For him, love is an emotion that belongs to the past: his eyes are white like a canvas on which to paint again, and they represent this void. That’s the reason why a woman that Orpheus meets, a painter, falls for him and decides to paint his eyes.

To me, art is the only mean to look at love again. Only when Orpheus can feel love once more, he may travel into his own hell, in his conscience, to try and break free from Eurydice's memory and erase her from his mind. Many people live in the past, in their traumas, in their lost love, in their abandonment, and sometimes these idealized ideas cause torment in oneself and make you incapable of being sensitive to the new, to the present time.

"To Her" wants to portray this mental state and how all categories of art can be the medicine capable of healing the past, the mean that makes real the beauty around us. It might happen even when we can't see it because we are too focused on looking back than looking forward.
